Well this week has been full of mixed emotions for me. I have said goodbye to one group of friends in my hometown back in New Zealand, while welcoming new friends in Sydney where my new life has begun. As promised I got a few pictures from each party.

On Tuesday I rented a car and picked up my Canadian poker friends from the airport after they had arrived from Australia – Mal Hagan who I had met during the EPT Poland event, and Jon Lutar who was travelling with Mal to the Aussie Millions. The first two days we mainly played online poker and then we had my leaving party on Thursday night. Ten of my close friends turned up and we drank for a bit and played poker before heading to town. I got some interesting presents from some of my girl mates. A flag sporting New Zealand’s national sporting colours, some candle holders, a cup holder with the New Zealand flag around it and a poster with some cool art and nice words written over it were amongst some of the items included in a bag of tricks that they had assembled. Here are a few pics from the party.

After arriving safely in Australia yesterday morning to another hot Sydney day, I set about getting ready for a welcoming party due to start at 7.30 pm on the Saturday night. I had to get some bits and pieces for my room and also the mandatory fan needed to survive the sweltering heat of Sydney. Then the guests started to arrive from about 6.15 pm onwards. It was nice to meet some people influential in my girlfriend’s and flatmates’ lives. About ten of their work colleagues turned up and we had a few drinks. My drink of choice was New Zealand wine. I regret choosing it because the bottles I had bought were not up to the usually high standards of New Zealand wine and I was very much worse for wear after drinking most of the two bottles. However, I did manage to make our next destination which was the Ashfield hotel pub. I don’t remember a lot about what went on there but we meet some more of the girl’s friends from work before heading home. Here are the pictures from the welcoming party here in Sydney.

Well that’s it for me. I will keep you posted on the first event of the inaugural ANZPT (Australia New Zealand Poker Tour) event starting in Adelaide this week. I leave on Tuesday from Sydney for the short two hour plane trip to boiling hot Adelaide. Apparently the mercury has reached 40 degrees Celsius there more than once in the past week. Lots of sunblock and good times I say. At the moment I am slated to play Day 1B on the Thursday and if I make Day 2 I will be joined by my lovely girlfriend for some morale support. Anyways I’m off to watch the cricket as my home country New Zealand are really putting Australia to the sword in the first game of the annual series. Bye.
